I had the privilege of witnessing an incredible victory last night in Georgia when Troy Davis’s execution has stayed by the US Supreme Court less than two hours before he was to be put to death. As many of you know, I have been working on a photo documentary about the death penalty, and I was there at the prison in Jackson to continue the ongoing project.
I have posted a selection of 51 photos from the day:
For those not familiar with Troy’s case, please visit http://www.amnestyusa.org/troydavis for more info. Troy Davis was scheduled to be executed on September 23 for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia but the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of execution until Monday September 29th. Serious doubts of his guilt remain and compelling evidence of his innocence has not been heard in court.
Feel free to forward the photo link above to others, and if you are with an organization that would like to use any images for web or print purposes, all are welcome. Please just contact me so I can track usage.
Onwards in the struggle,
